Mark McMorris wins 28 Stairs, Seb Toots wins best trick and Jye Kearney wins top local
After all the hard work the boys put in to pulling together a killer-looking slopestyle course, it sucked that heavy snowfall meant this part of the contest had to be canceled but the riders still got a chance to get it on at the night-time rail jam. When the dust had cleared it was 16-year-old Canadian Mark McMorris that the judges reckoned threw down the most consistent hammers on the 28-stair setup and so he stole the 2010 Stairmaster title from fellow Canuk and riding buddy Seb Toutant.
McMorris and Toutant were on fire all evening, with Toots bagging the Best Trick for his switch hardway 270 boardslide, but there was also heavy hammers from the US Flow boys, Jeremy Thompson and Ian Thorley, Matts Kulisek and current TTR World Number One, Gjermund Braaten. Not to be outdone, the local Aussie shredders put on a good show, with 17-year-old Jye Kearny singled out as the best local and showed that Australian shredding has a bright future.
The action-packed 28 Stairs event brought Stylewars 2010 to a close. With Stylewars celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2011 we’re sacrificing virgins already in the hope that Mother Nature will bless Stylewars 2011 with the conditions that this event truly deserves.
